Dean Jay places new and needed emphasis on fund raising, a critical area for Sackler.

Dear Sackler Community,

I spent last week at a conference for deans and their development officers to help develop the skills necessary to engage alumni and other potential donors. I learned that it is a partnership between the donor, dean and development officer that make it possible to realize gifts that have impact. Roxanne Beal (Sackler’s Director of Development) and I work well together, and it was good to enrich our working relationship to best get our vision out to prospective donors.

Since I started as dean, we have been engaging alumni both in Boston and around the country, many of whom are surprised and welcome the contact. I have enjoyed hearing their stories of how their time at Sackler helped them in their careers and what they would have liked that would have helped them in their early years along their career path. I am gratified that some have already aligned with our mission and trust me to carry it out.

SAVE THE DATE: #TuftsGivingTuesday is November 27. Giving Tuesday, the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, has become an event that many non-profits use to encourage giving. At Sackler we are fortunate this year to have a challenge opportunity from a donor who will contribute $10,000 to the Sackler Fund if we can achieve 100 gifts to any Sackler Fund. This is our first concerted effort for Giving Tuesday and I hope you will participate. It would mean a lot as we progress to making Sackler distinctive in training to career excellence and setting the example for the rest to follow. Stay-tuned for more information and how to give. Thanks for considering.

Daniel Jay, Dean
