Sackler entrance

Dear Sackler Community,

Last week we held the annual Charlton Poster Competition and Lecture, hosted by the School of Medicine Academic Research Awards Committee in conjunction with the Sackler Dean’s Office. This event brought together students and faculty from Sackler as well as Medical, Dental and Veterinary Schools. On Tuesday, we had over 40 student poster presentations evaluated by a panel of faculty judges. The judges were charged with selecting a few finalists for the second round of judging. I had a number of judges comment that they had a very difficult decision as many of the posters and presentations deserved to move on.

On Wednesday, the 12 finalists presented to a panel of judges comprised of faculty as well as the Charlton Lecturer Kit Pogliano, PhD, Dean and Professor, Division of Biological Sciences, University of California San Diego.

I am pleased to announce the finalists and their order following the second round:

In the Medical/Dental/Veterinary category

First Place – Mythilee Kugathasan (Dental)

Second Place – Shawn Kim (Dental)

Third Place –Sarah Brockett (Medical)

Fourth Place – Aaron Yu (Medical)

In the Sackler Junior category

First Place – Lea Gaucherand (Microbiology)

Second Place – James Cameron (Immunology)

Third Place – Mike Thorsen (CMDB)

Fourth Place – Christopher Schwank (CMDB)

In the Sackler Senior category

First Place – Jay Ngwenyama (Immunology)

Second Place – Jenny Koenig (Neuroscience & MSTP)

Third Place – Sara Roggensack (Microbiology)
