DVM/PhD Program

Cummings School sign

The Sackler School, in conjunction with the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, offers the opportunity for individuals with interests in both veterinary medicine and basic biomedical research to coordinate completion of both the DVM and PhD degrees at Tufts University. Students admitted to both programs typically complete two years of veterinary school in Grafton, then undertake their PhD in the Sackler School before returning to Cummings to conclude their DVM studies. Each degree is awarded when the requirements for that degree are completed.

Applicants to the DVM/PhD program must apply separately to both the Cummings School and the Sackler School and clearly indicate their interest in the combined degree program on both application forms. Information on applying to the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine can be found on the TCSVM web site. To apply to the Sackler School please follow the PhD program application instructions. Prospective students must be admitted to both schools to pursue the joint degrees.
