Graduate Student Council

Career Paths

The Sackler Graduate Student Council (SGSC) is the voice of the graduate students of the Sackler School. The Council is composed of two representatives from each Sackler School Program, plus an MD/PhD program representative. The committee meets monthly to addresses academic and student life issues and to plan social and community service events.

The SGSC sponsors various events, including the Career Paths Seminar series, which features speakers with a wide range of careers in the sciences.   They also sponsor some of the Sackler Science Frontiers speakers.  This series brings scientists working at the cutting edge of discovery to our campus.  In addition, they produce a highly-successful newsletter, The Sackler InSight, to communciate Program news, upcoming events, and interesting editorials.  They also organize a wide range of community service activities, including support of Rosie’s Place, a shelter for homeless women; a school supply drive for Horizons for Homeless Children; Adopt A Platoon; Gap Junction, a middle school teaching opportunity; and an annual blood drive.

The SGSC arranges some very popular social events to increase school spirit.  Annually, they host a new student scavenger hunt, plan a Halloween party, sell candy and flowers for Valentine's day, and organize a Spring social event. In addition, they coordinate the Sackler Relays, which brings the entire school together in a friendly athletic competition and picnic. They sell raffle tickets at the Relays to raise money for the Biomedical Travel Awards, which are awarded twice annually and support student attendance at national and international scientific meetings.
