What influenced your decision to pursue biomedical research?

My mother entered graduate school for her PhD in chemistry when I was in middle school. I’d always liked science, but seeing how rewarding she found research to be must have steered me towards graduate school.

How is the environment at Sackler helping you achieve your professional goals?

Sackler has a very open and cooperative environment. I’m interested in cell biology and biomedical engineering, and here I was able to do a joint thesis, with an adviser from each program. I’ve also been able to take classes in each discipline. This training will prepare me well for future jobs, as scientific research is becoming increasingly collaborative and cross-disciplinary.

What type of positions are you considering after graduation?

I'm interested in teaching and carrying out research at a medium sized research university – much like Tufts!

Why did you choose Sackler over other graduate schools?

I chose Sackler mainly because I was having a hard time deciding what type of research I wanted to focus on. Sackler’s ISP program and collaborative environment gave me the freedom to look around at different projects and labs.

What's your favorite way to relax after classes?

There are tons of good restaurants and bars right nearby. I also rock climb at a local gym, and outside when the weather is good!

What's your favorite thing about being in Boston and why?

There’s just a lot to do in Boston – I love going to Celtics games, and concerts - there are a lot of good artists and small venues here.

What is your favorite Boston restaurant?

This is tough – Aquitaine (French), Dali (tapas), and Diva (Indian).
