Research Institutes

Lab

The Health Sciences Campus that is home to the Sackler School houses several research institutes that contribute to the rich research atmosphere that characterizes our surroundings.  These institutes are particularly important in linking our researchers together and offer a venue to link scientists working on basic biomedical research questions to physicians working on translational problems that directly affect patient care.  Sackler faculty are active participants in these centers and institutes.

The Molecular Oncology Research Institute

The Molecular Oncology Research Institute (MORI) is home to 17 faculty members focused on all aspects of cancer research and is an integral part of the Tufts Medical Center Cancer Center, a collaboration between Tufts University and Tufts Medical Center.  MORI researchers are actively investigating mechanisms of breast, brain, bone and blood cancers.  The faculty are active participants in Sackler School training.  In addition, through the Cancer Center, MORI hosts a cancer-focused seminar series and mounts special workshops that bring together cancer researchers across our campus.

The Molecular Cardiology Research Institute

The Molecular Cardiology Research Institute (MCRI) was founded in 1997.  17 faculty members work with over 80 scientists and physician scientists to address molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular disease and develop new therapeutic approaches to these disorders.  Mentoring the next generation of researchers is one of the core missions of the Institute and many of its faculty members participate in Sackler School programs.  The Institute also sponsors a Molecular Medicine seminar series.

Institute for Clinical Research and Health Policy Studies

This institute brings together faculty focused on clinical, health services and health outcomes research.  The faculty focuses on the translation of scientific research into clinical care and examine the ways in which genetic and biological factors influence health outcomes.  Training is a core mission and the Institute is home to the Clinical Research Graduate Program of the Sackler School.

Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging

The HNRCA is one of six centers worldwide that study the way in which nutrition affects aging.  Research at the HNRCA encompasses the entire spectrum from the most basic studies to population-based intervention studies.  Their faculty is particularly working to determine the nutritional requirements that best promote health and how diet impacts aging-related degenerative disease.
