Research Synopsis

My current research is focused on understanding sex and gender differences in cardiovascular disease in terms of risk, treatment patterns, outcomes and treatment response. I have previously investigated the role of reproductive, hormonal and gender-related risk factors in driving differences in incidence and outcomes for sexually dimorphic conditions including lung cancer and pulmonary hypertension. As a member of the Tufts Predictive Analytics and Comparative Effectiveness (PACE) Center, I study the role of sex and gender in clinical prediction models for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease outcomes, and the potential for these models to guide appropriate sex-specific clinical care. I am also actively engaged in the application and dissemination of novel teaching methods in public health and clinical research curricula and have helped design and implement clinical research training programs in various international settings, including Brazil, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Nigeria.
