Research Synopsis

Our major research interest focuses on understanding the sensory innervation of the cornea. Corneal nerves protect this tissue by responding to damaging stimuli that could result in a loss of vision. We center our efforts around two main questions. We hope to understand the factors that guide nerves to the cornea during development, and once in the cornea, we want to elucidate the functional mechanisms that allow thesesensory nerves to respond to different damaging stimuli.
