Research Synopsis

Aging is one of the most interesting phenomena in life that we know very little about. Aging increases susceptibility to a variety of diseases including neurodegeneration. The research in my lab focuses on the role of sirtuins in brain aging, different neurodegenerative diseases and the age-related conditions in brain. As being molecules related to lifespan regulation, survival and stress response, sirtuins definitely affect the pathways and molecular systems that go awry during aging and diseases in brain. My lab uses molecular and cell biology techniques, mouse genetics, biochemistry and proteomics. The results of these studies will have great potential to develop therapeutic applications to treat neurodegenerative diseases.
