Research Synopsis

While I no longer accept dissertation students, I am an active participant in teaching and program activities, and a Portal Director of the Tufts Clinical and Translational Research Institute. My research focused on mucosal immunology and microbial pathogenesis, with an emphasis on bacterial enzymes that proteolytically attack human mucosal IgA antibodies. I am still active in studying IgA deposition diseases, a common cause of renal failure that we are proposing to reverse by using bacterial IgA proteases for treatment of patients.
