Individuals who have not been admitted to a Sackler School degree program may take PhD or Master’s courses as Special or non-matriculated students. A Special Student can be an employee of Tufts University, a graduate of a Sackler School program or other programs at Tufts, or someone outside of Tufts who wishes to take a course.
There is no limit to the number of courses Special Students may take; however, those who are subsequently admitted to a Sackler School degree program may only count up to two Sackler courses that were taken toward their degrees. Thus, it is recommended that those interested in seeking a degree apply for admission and matriculate before registering for a third course.
Special Students must obtain permission from the course director (their signature on the Special Student Application and Registration Form), and meet the course prerequisites and requirements and provide appropriate immunization documentation before they can be registered. A Special Student application must be completed each semester an individual plans on taking course(s) as a Special Student.
A list of course offerings is available through the schedule of courses here.
The deadline for submitting all required materials for Special Student status is two weeks before the start of classes.
See the Academic Calendar for specific term dates.
