Hospital-acquired infections caused by multidrug-resistant pathogens are becoming increasingly common. In an effort to identify new therapies for nosocomial infections, we are studying intrinsic resistance in multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii. Using Tn-seq, we aim to identify genes that contribute to intrinsic resistance against a large panel of antibiotics. We will also analyze how the set of intrinsic resistance genes varies between two different clinical isolates. Our hope is that these resistance genes may offer novel targets for combatting infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria.
