The combination of emerging multi-drug resistant (MDR) and pan-drug resistant (PDR) pathogens with the lack of new antibiotic therapies has become a concern of increasing importance in public health. Acinetobacter baumannii has been identified as one of the most important MDR Gram negative pathogens today, showing a broad set of resistance mechanisms. Using genetic approaches and statistical analysis, I will be identifying genes that play a role in these antibiotic resistance mechanisms. This could lead to new targets for novel treatments or help improve currently used antibiotic therapies.
