Streptococcus pneumoniae, an important cause of bacterial pneumonia and septicemia, resides harmlessly in the nasopharynx of many individuals.  Previous work in the lab showed that S. pneumoniae nasopharyngeal colonization renders mice resistant to invasive pneumococcal disease. I am studying the role of T cells in this protective response.
