Streptococcus pneumoniae is a respiratory pathogen and the most common cause of community-acquired bacterial pneumonia. S. pneumoniae elicits an acute inflammatory response in the lung that promotes tissue damage, bacterial burden and systemic spread. My research investigates the role of specific S. pneumoniae virulence factors that promote inflammation and disease.

I am still working on plans for the teaching I will carry out as part of the TEACRS program.
