I am working on characterizing the CodY regulon in Listeria monocytogenes. CodY is a transcriptional regulator found in Gram positive bacteria that coordinates a transcriptional response to limitations in certain nutrients. CodY also affects virulence gene expression in L. monocytogenes and other pathogens; however, the mechanisms by which this occurs remain poorly understood. With my work, I aim to better elucidate the effects of CodY on gene expression, including its role in regulating virulence.
