I am interested in understanding how Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease, establishes long-term infections in its tick vector and mammalian reservoirs. Specifically, I am interested in how B. burgdorferi responds to oxidative stress, which it encounters at various points of its enzootic cycle. I am using Tn-seq, which harnesses next-generation sequencing technology to characterize the relative fitness of mutants in a transposon library, to identify genes involved in this stress response.
