Abnormal accumulation of misfolded proteins in the brain is a common hallmark of many neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease etc. Impairment of the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS), the cell’s protein quality control machinery, is suggested to contribute to neurodegeneration. As part of a collaborative project between AstraZeneca and Tufts, I aim to characterize the pathways involved in protein aggregation and to explore avenues for potential therapeutic intervention within these pathways.
