My research focus is studying immunological and nerve changes in the cornea following inflammation or infection particularly with herpes simplex virus. I gradually became interested in corneal immune rejection mechanism and which led to the Richard Lindstrom/Eye Bank of America (EBAA) Research Grant award for three consecutive years (2013- 2015) to investigate therapeutic strategies for inhibiting immune corneal graft rejection. Most of my research in this area pertains to investigating the role of cell adhesion molecules and integrins in immune corneal graft rejection and also role of biologics in graft survival. I look forward to expanding my knowledge and experience in both basic and clinical ophthalmology and continue my career path in academia in the same field.
