The germination of C. difficile spores transforms its metabolically dormant form into a toxin-producing vegetative cell and thus is critical for its pathogenesis. The Shen lab previously showed that C. difficile spore germination depends on the lipoprotein GerS. My goal is to elucidate the mechanism of GerS action using mutagenesis, co-immunoprecipitation, and fluorescence microscopy analyses.
