Through an annual travel allowance, TEACRS trainees have the opportunity to attend national conferences and meetings related to their research and to career development, such as those listed below.

ASM Conference for Undergraduate Education

Baltimore, MD June 14-17, 2012
Registration deadline, March 16, 2012

This interactive conference includes plenary, poster and exhibit sessions on effective teaching strategies with the goal of improving teaching and learning in the biological sciences. It is not necessary to be a microbiologist to benefit from this conference.

ASM Kadner Institute

Michigan State U, July 21-25, 2012
Application deadline, May 15, 2012

This conference offers intensive, hands-on training in scientific presentations, grantsmanship and teaching. Sessions also address scientific ethics and career opportunities in microbiology.

Council on Undergraduate Research Conference

Weber State U, March 29-31, 2012
Application deadline, March 5, 2012

This conference covers topics such as drawing underrepresented students into science, making research experiences a universal practice for students, and bringing undergraduate research together with other high-impact, engaged-learning practices.

Council on Undergraduate Research Institutes

These institutes are small meetings to discuss issues related to undergraduate research and faculty development.  Topics for 2012 include Beginning a Research Program at a PUI, International Perspectives in Undergraduate Research, and Research for Undergraduate Student Scholarship.

This workshop is held just prior to the Annunal Meeting of the American Society of Engineering Education Annual Meeting and provides practice in effective teaching methods and discusses strategies to balance life as a faculty member.

National Academies Summer Workshop on Teaching Undergraduate Biology

Boston, MA, June 11-16, 2012

This workshop provides trainees with the ability to improve classroom education and attract a more diverse group of students to research. An emphasis is placed on training faculty in a scientific approach to teaching that reflects the way research is conducted.
