The Post-Baccalaureate Research Program (PREP) at the Sackler School offers 1 to 2 year research apprenticeships for recent graduates who are interested in pursuing research careers in the biomedical sciences. The PREP is designed to increase the training possibilities for those currently under-represented in biomedical science research. Currently, these include, but are not limited to, African-Americans, Hispanics, Native-Americans, people with disabilities and members of groups that are economically or socially disadvantaged. If you are curious about biological phenomena, enjoy your science and mathematics classes and have a passionate interest in making discoveries, this is the program for you. Generally, training begins July 1, but it can be adjusted individually to a date as late as September 1.
Apprentices spend 75% of their time as research assistants investigating a scientific problem under faculty guidance. Close attention is given to mentorship and development of communication and presentation skills. The goal of the program is to enhance preparedness for graduate study as PhD or MD/PhD students. A specialized curriculum is provided to help trainees achieve these goals. Trainees also interact directly with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and experience a rich research environment. Time for individualized study that can range from GRE preparation to advanced graduate courses is also incorporated into the program. Salary plus benefits are provided.
Please see the PREP admissions page for information about eligibility for PREP and the application process.
