Epilepsy is the fourth most common neurological disorder, characterized by unpredictable seizures. Increased neuronal excitability has long been associated with increased seizure susceptibility, as changes in the mechanisms of neuronal inhibitory signaling are observed in many forms of epilepsy. My research seeks to understand how deficits in neuronal chloride transport contribute to reduced neuronal inhibition and increased seizure susceptibility.
