Streptococcus pneumoniae is a Gram positive pathogen that can cause pneumonia, bacteremia, otitis media, and meningitis; at risk populations include the elderly and immunocompromised persons. My research focuses on the differential set of S. pneumoniae genes utilized during infection of young, immuno-competent hosts and aged, immuno-compromised hosts.
