The intestinal pathogen enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) triggers actin assembly in epithelial cells just beneath bound bacteria. In a murine model, the formation of these actin ‘pedestals’ is required for colonization of the colonic mucosa and for lethal disease. I am investigating how pedestal formation promotes EHEC pathogenicity.
