Rejection of heart transplants has been a long-standing immunological problem, and the mortality rate for heart transplants after the first year has been largely unchanged over the past two decades. I am studying the plasticity of Th17 cells in heart transplants, and how hyperlipidemia influences the rejection of cardiac grafts. This work will hopefully lead to better understanding and treatment of heart transplant rejection in humans.
