MERGE-ID Web Site

MERGE-ID (MEdically-oriented Research in Graduate Education - Infectious Disease) is a track in the Graduate Programs in Immunology and Molecular Microbiology that is specifically designed to provide strong training in the basic microbiology and immunology of pathogenic organisms and host responses as well as in-depth knowledge of the pathogenesis, diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and epidemiology of infectious disease.  This program is unique, integrating clinical studies and patient contact throughout the training period.  In addition, each MERGE-ID thesis project is equally co-mentored by a basic research scientist and a clinician-scientist.

Trainees begin their studies in the first week of July, prior to the start of formal classes in September. The curriculum is specifically designed to provide students with strong grounding in a biomedical scientific discipline as well as the knowledge to understand the clinical implications of their work and move their discoveries to the bedside.

MERGE-ID is directed by Andrew Camilli, PhD, Professor of Molecular Biology & Microbiology and an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.  The faculty is drawn from members of the participating graduate programs and the Division of Geographic Medicine of Tufts University School of Medicine.
