The Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology (CMDB) Program is positioned at the critical interface of basic science and disease. The CMDB research programs address a wide range of human health conditions, including regenerative medicine, cancer, cardiovascular disease, birth defects, reproductive disorders, neurological disease, and vision disorders.
To tackle the complex interplay between development and disease, CMDB faculty use a broad range of cell, molecular and biochemical approaches. These include functional genomics and proteomics studies in model organisms like Drosophila, zebrafish, and genetically altered mice; state-of-the-art image analysis and microscopy; gene expression and silencing; and tissue engineering. Using this highly integrated approach, our faculty are revealing novel mechanisms and pathways that they can target for gene, protein, or cell-based therapy.
The mission of the CMDB Program is to train outstanding research scientists and physician-scientists who will apply their knowledge to understanding and treating human disease by seeking careers in academia, the pharmaceutical industry, or in the bio-pharma sector.
Students interested in the CMDB Program complete their first year as members of the Integrated Studies Program.
