Students seeking admission to the Cellular and Molecular Physiology Graduate Program apply to the Integrated Studies Program in the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences. You may also contact our Program Director, Dr Ira Herman, if you have specific questions. Sackler students typically receive financial aid that includes full tuition remission, a student stipend and health insurance.
Prospective applicants must have completed a minimum of one year of college-level biology, at least one year of college-level mathematics, and inorganic and organic chemistry. Although not required, successful completion of courses in biochemistry, cell biology and genetics are assets for graduate biomedical study. Most of our current students majored in a biological science during their undergraduate years. The Graduate Record Examination is required, but a subject test (Biology or Biochemistry) is optional. Additional information about application documents, selection criteria, and international applicant requirements can be found on the PhD admissions page.
Our objective is to select students who are not only intellectually capable, but who also possess investigative skills coupled to an inquisitive mind. Applicants are evaluated based on undergraduate transcripts, GRE scores, letters of reference, and research experience. Typical highly competitive applicants have GPAs of at least 3.4 (based on a 4.0 system), GRE scores at the 70th percentile or greater, and have engaged in significant laboratory research during or following their undergraduate education. Following review of submitted applications, competitive candidates are invited to visit Tufts and meet with students and faculty.
The application process is completed on-line. Details about the application process and important deadlines for applicants can be found on the Sackler School admissions pages.
