Every year members of the CMDB program travel to an off-campus site for a retreat. Past locations include the Purity Springs Resort in New Hampshire, the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole, and the Sea Crest Resort in Falmouth on Cape Cod.
The retreat provides time for both scientific and social interactions. All students present posters on their work, and many of the faculty give updates on their research. A Keynote Speaker highlights the science portion of the Retreat.
Social activities vary depending upon the location, but include canoeing, softball, soccer, touch football, beach volleyball. Of course, no CMDB Retreat would be complete without some music, dancing and evaluation of the mood-elevating properties of certain metabolic by-products of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
