In addition to generating the low luminal pH of acidic organelles, the V-ATPase has emerged as an important component of cellular nutrient sensing pathways. I am studying the role of the V-ATPase in how cells sense and respond to changes in nutrient/energy availability. I am also studying how plasma membrane V-ATPases contribute to cancer cell invasion and migration, which may be an important target for cancer metastasis.
