The mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) and its ligand hormone aldosterone are known to regulate blood pressure at the level of the kidney. However, recent data suggests that the MR in vascular cells plays a role in cardiovascular pathologies such as hypertension and atherosclerosis. My thesis research uses a number of mouse models to study the role of endothelial-specific MR in the development of atherosclerosis and vascular inflammation.
