With the increase in life span due to medical developments, more and more individuals will become affected by osteoarthritis (OA), a “wear and tear” joint disease. Additionally, late diagnosis coupled with limited treatment options make this condition debilitating to those affected. By using molecular and genetic approaches, I seek to develop a method for early detection of OA as well understand how the inflammatory condition affects cartilage regeneration. By coupling these two aspects of OA research, the long-term goal is to help develop better treatment options for OA to improve the quality of life for those affected.
