The vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase) is an ATP-driven proton pump involved in many normal and disease processes, including cancer, bone resorption and viral infection. I am currently using a novel genetic screen in yeast to identify new regulators of V-ATPase assembly and investigating the signaling pathways controlling assembly in mammalian systems. These studies will likely provide novel insights that could lead to targeted therapies to prevent cancer metastasis and osteoporosis.
